Throughout history, people have been fascinated with the idea of artists tucked away into their studios, creating beautiful masterpieces to inspire and delight — but the process doesn’t have to be a mystery any longer.
Organizers of the Julian Open Studios Tour on Oct. 27 and 28 invite the public into the studios of artists to see their creative process and artwork. In meeting the artist firsthand, guests may ask questions and take advantage of an excellent opportunity to find a special piece of art for the home or a gift for the upcoming holidays.
Yellow “Open Studios Today” signs will guide tour-takers through the backcountry to each artist’s doorstep. Tickets, which include a map and wristband, are $10 each, available at participating studios; at the Julian Chamber of Commerce, 2129 Main St.; and online at julianartsguild.org. Proceeds from the event benefit the Julian Arts Guild.
Showcased at this year’s event will be artisans who work in various mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, glass art, multimedia and jewelry design. In addition, artists will be giving out coupons for shops and restaurants in town — it’s the perfect way to spend a day in the mountains.
